Consumer Product Safety Review; Spring 2003, "Most Hazardous"

Electric:

  • Aluminum Wiring Repairs COPALUM repair system has benefited tens of thousands of consumers by reducing the risks of dangerous overheating and fire that can be caused by failing aluminum  wiring connections.

  • Federal Pacific Electrical Panels "Stab-Lok" service panels and breakers can be a latent fire hazard and can fail.
  • Square D is recalling combination meter/electrical breaker panels mounted on the outside of homes which could pose a risk of shock, electrocution and burns.

Heating/Air Conditioning:

  • Plastic Vent pipes used in heating systems can crack or separate at the joints and leak CO. These are being recalled and need to be replaced. They can be identified by the color which is gray or black and are labeled Plexvent, Plexvent II or Ultravent 
  • Goldstar, General Electric and Sears portable Dehumidifiers recalls due to an internal electrical connection which can overheat causing a potential fire hazard. These units were sold in department stores between January 1999 through December 1999.

  • Propane Regulator Recalls involving regulators which can leak propane, which can result in fire or explosion. Please note that these regulators are not the type typically used with propane barbecue grills.
  • Lawnmower recalls walk-behind lawn mowers sold under the Ariens, Scotts, and Husqvarna brand names. The piece attaching the blade to the mower can crack and break off. The broken piece or the blade can be propelled from underneath the mower, possibly injuring the operator or a bystander.  
  • Dangerous Brass Flexible Gas Connectors Used on Home Appliances can leak or break open causing a fire or explosion.
